It is not about the technology or innovation, it is about providing what you promise!
So they say that technology in the field of cosmetic chemistry is well understood which makes it difficult to develop impactful innovations. It may be so. There are certainly ingredients that are known to be good in certain aspects of haircare and they certainly advertise them so much and so often. You see it on the labels so often. When I learned to really formulate hair products, I learned that good hair care is not really about coming up with a brand new innovative ingredient like an exotic mushroom that miraculously solve all hair issues. It is about actually delivering what you promise, actually putting that active ingredient you promised your customer your product will have at a percentage that will be effective.
Look at the label of your shampoo. Look what they are promising. What is the active ingredient that they are marketing their product with. And check the ingredient list. Most of the time, you will see that active ingredient even after the preservative, so you know it was included even less than at a 1% rate. What a deliberate disillusionment! You deserve better! Read the ingredients. Choose what is good for you. Not what is marketed to be good for you.
